Vandals topple radio tower, cause $1M in damage

Original post made on Jul 31, 2013

Police are investigating why someone broke into a gated enclosure and toppled a radio communication tower on Rocky Ridge in the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness earlier this week. Cables that held the tower in place were cut, causing it to fall.

This sounds like more than just a teenage prank to me. You've got to be dedicated to scaling up a very steep hill with bolt cutters (?) to destroy the tower. I'd suspect Occupy types, or worse. I hope they find whoever did it. This is no joke.

As LMP said it it either Occupy types or more likely someone thinking of stealing copper wire. They went to a lot of work to get there. Whoever did this is not the sharpest knife in the drawer as all it did was lots of damage to equipment that was redundant anyway. If this was political, what was the point?

Disruption of emergency communications?

Could be a test run to check responses and learn what other systems are in place, or could just be nutjobs out for some vandal fun.

In any event, I encourage the complete and thorough investigation of this crime and the punishment of the perpetrators.

At best, this is theft of $1M minimum from the public.

"Occupy types"? Really? Because the best way to protest economic disparity is to cut support wires on a communications tower outside of an obscure suburb that no one 30 miles away will ever hear about?

Why not "Tea Party types" - "or worse." Maybe they're worried that the tower helps the black helicopters enforcing Agenda 21 and U.N. hegemony. Yeah - that's it - it's "Tea Party types"!

Oh, please. "Occupy-types?" I dunno, maybe it was "Tea Party Types" seeking to make government smaller. It makes about as much sense.

Or maybe it Was someone with an anarchist bent -- but that doesn't jibe with Occupy. Fact is, we don't know yet who did it. But we DO know that you'd benefit from changing the channel occasionally.

Oops. I see my fellow "anarchist-type" beat me to the same point -- you Knew we all think alike, right? And now you also know we're not the same person.

Maybe it was the “Justice for Trayvon” types. They smashed the windows of Sears and Dogwood restaurant in Oakland, because clearly those stores are responsible for the miscarriage of justice in Florida.

Maybe they thought this radio tower had something to do with it too.

You know, the classic image of an internet troll is an ogre who lives under a bridge. But there's also the guy who sits in front of his computer with a very long spoon, that reaches all the way to his commode. And sometimes, he just can't resist stirring the contents.

Our own spc has such a spoon, and he's a-stirrin'. He knows full well that those demonstrations were overwhelmingly peaceful (to the evident disappointment of "media-types"), yet he cannot resist trying to bait the "occupiers" of this thread, using his long spoon. That's a troll.

Too bad, spc -- too obvious. Better stirring, next time.

I'm pretty sure it was aliens. I saw some "pods" at the 4th of July parade pretending to be patriots. To emulate us, they even go in for the hairy beer bellies hanging below their Don't-Tread-on-Me T-shirts.

Isn't freedom of speech wonderful? Where else in the world can you on about things like this?

How about just bored and underemployed perps. They need something to feel engaged and excited about so they destroy private property and get away with something. It is not anything new or a conspiracy. If they managed to damage this site maybe it was too easy to do and the companies that own and manage them should step up their surveillance and anti-theft protection.

I'm sorry, Louise. There's no place here for rational, reality-based thinking. I'm afraid we're going to have to ask you to leave.

Did PG&E have anything to do with this tower? If so, the criminally negligent outfit probably brought it down through its demonstrable incompetence.
