In appreciation of the Iron Horse Trail

Original post made by JRM, Vista Grande Elementary School, on Dec 14, 2009

I have been a Danville resident for over 20 years and am an avid runner, hitting the Iron Horse Trail every other day for my 4 mile route. I have seen it all as I jog by my fellow trail users: feuding couples taking a walk together to air things out, young mothers pushing strollers working off post partum weight, groups of women walking and talking together about life's events, old men taking their slow steps with walkers, loving adults taking their aged parents in wheelchairs out for some fresh air, young Fathers taking their kids out for a joyous bike ride, teams in training encouraging each others progress on exercise goals, singles out for a first date bike ride, Asian grandmothers gathering acorns, parents watching their little ones pick up leaves to show them, grieving spouses now walking their familiar trail alone, dogs of all varieties having the time of their life rooting out the errant squirrels, and the familiar fellow runners I have encountered for years.
I have taken a number of my out of town colleagues for runs along the trail and invariably they all say how much they enjoyed it and how unique and beautiful it is. I thought I'd start a topic on this so we can share stories about how this wonderful asset has enhanced out own experiences in our little town.
See You there---

My love for the trail runs deep as I have used it ever since I moved to this part of the Bay Area 10 years ago. I use it to get the Danville Farmer's market on nice Saturday mornings via bicycle. I use it to get to the Dublin Sports Grounds to watch my friend's children play sports, also via bicycle. I am also a runner and have my favorite 3-5 miler depending on the day and starting location. Same goes for rollerblading though the routes tend to be longer. I have trained for 3 Avon Walks on this trail and helped an injured cyclist get medical attention along with several other concerned passers-by. I love living in an area that values it's open space enough to have a trail like this and I am thankful to have access to it.
