And they will not be attending Colbert's rally.
I assume you already have your ticket?
Before deciding if you are going to vote for McNerney, consider where McNerney and his fellow Democrats stand on the following issues:
(1)They support Obama's socialized medicine plan;
(2) They support legalizing marijuana;
(3) They support illegal aliens who reside in California paying less to attend UC colleges than U.S. citizens who reside in Arizona, Nevada, or any other U.S. state;
(4) They support gay marriages;
(5) They support extending the length of time a person can stay on welfare;
(6) They believe if any family earns $250,000 or more that they should drastically have their taxes increased to support programs like extending the length of time a person can stay on welfare;
(7) They voted with San Francisco's Nancy Pelosi 97% of the time;
(8) They support government regulations that prohibit McDonalds from putting a toy in their happy meal for children.
Those are the facts. Consider the facts, and vote accordingly.
American, I'm not an expert on the subject, but my understanding is that undocumented high school graduates("illegal aliens" is an archaic term) currently pay out of state tuition in our colleges. I support granting them access on par with the rest of their classmates. Frankly, I would rather these kids were educated and paying more $ (based on the higher salary afforded a college graduate) in to the social security system (which they do whether they are documented or not) when I retire and depend on this for my retirement.
What's your beef here?
Frankly, I'm against sending any good California jobs to Utah.
That state has three Congressional Districts, including one held by a Democrat. Why doesn't Mr. Harmer want to represent some place closer to his home?
The term "carpetbagger" is a pejorative for a good reason.
Sharon: McNerney and the Democrats support having illegal aliens who reside in Calfornia paying less to attend our UC Colleges than U.S. citizens who reside in states outside of California. Our UC Colleges are having such financial problems that they have implemented drastic cuts, such as UC Berkeley getting rid of their top baseball and rugby programs. McNerney and the Democrats have thus chosen to support illegal aliens rights over raising enough funds to support important college programs like baseball and rugby. That is "my beef". If you agree with McNerney and the Democrats on this issue, you should vote for him. If you do not, vote against him.
Cardinal: It is interesting that you and your fellow liberals love to refer to Harmer as a "carpetbagger", even though he is a U.S. citizen and California resident, but yet you refer to illegal aliens as "undocumented individuals". Nice spin. Is that the rooster I hear crowing?
Nice spin? Nicer semantics. Harmer is a Utahan, through-and-through. You can say CA "resident" only because the legal definition is "immediate presence" and "current intent to remain." We'll see what happens to that second factor when he loses in November, and he has to go look for another unsuspecting district to in which to ply his naked political opportunism.
This is, after all, his Third run for Congress, in Three different districts.
Guess I don't know what it means to be a "Utahan, through-and-through."
What if I called you a "Californian, through-and-through?" What would that mean?
Or are you a religious bigot?
Californian through-and-through = surfer. Utahan = not so much.
As to any religious bias -- is he Muslim (gasp)? Or a witch?
American, your objection to students who are not documented and yet live in the state paying the same tuition as resident students is incredibly short sighted. Without access to higher education you are keeping these kids from reaching salary potential that could result in more taxes paid, therefore benefiting the entire state.
Perhaps you could take a step back and consider what's in the interest of the common good, rather than allowing your clear disdain for "illegal aliens" as you call them (seriously?) cloud your judgment.
Sharon: Perhaps you could "take a step back" and use some logic skills to analyze this issue...People are driven by incentives, so if you give illegal aliens additional incentives to come here and stay illegally, they will...If you have a Mexican student who stayed in Mexico where he was legally entitled to be, he would have to pay more to attend a U.C. College than if he broke the law without any consequences and illegally came and resided in CA...Go a step further, once he graduates from the U.C. College, and goes out to the U.S. work force, he will need to show two valid sources of identification to legally work in the U.S., so what does he do? Does he continue to use falsified illegal documents to obtain employment, which puts his employer at risk if they are caught which could result in the employer being shut down and actual U.S. citizens losing jobs? Or does he then go back to Mexico to work?...Should the actual U.S. citizen who can only afford to attend a U.C. college if he earns a baseball scholarship be denied an education because illegal aliens have paid less tuition to attend the U.C. than U.S. citizens who live in other states, resulting in budget problems that force the U.C. to discontinue their baseball program? The problem with people like you is that you give additional rights and benefits to people who break the law, while taking additional rights and benefits away from those who have followed the law..."The common good" is served if the law is followed and respected by all, and not by giving special rights and benefits to those who break the law.
American, you are clearly rooted in your own dogma and I'm not going to try to pry you loose. I do find it interesting that it is so easy to immigrate to the USA via the northern border where skin tends to be lighter. Ever noticed that yourself? Want to take a gander at the reasoning behind the discrepancy?
Please give us a hand while we flout federal law
