Tri-Valley Foundation vacates headquarters

The doors to the Tri-Valley Community Foundation have been locked for more than a week now, and although the lights are on, most of the furniture is gone. Calls to the foundation go directly to voicemail and its recently hired PR firm, Full Court Press, has not returned calls or emails, but the foundation did provide financial statements for 2009 and 2010 after a request from the Danville Express.

This is such a great teaching moment for those that run and administer non-profits of all types and sizes here in the Tri-Valley. When the fund raising becomes more of a social scene than good administration, when the sense of entitlement grows and morphs into a grandiose view of "how special we are", that organization if ready for a fall and we saw that here. Fiscal responsibility requires a management team that does just that no matter how uncomfortable for the the executive director and the board needs to lead not just be a social club.
