Original post made on Mar 18, 2008

Increasing prevalence of elder financial abuse is causing it to be called the crime of the 21st century. It is a major focus of Every Generation, a county organization whose goal is to make local communities good places to age.

Eloise Sotelo did a great job in informing people at that meeting about financial abuse. Since the focus was financial abuse of the elderly, she did not talk about the other abuses of elderly persons in our county, such as neglect, constraint or deprivation, over- or under-medication, abduction, assault/battery, isolation, abandonment, and psychological abuse. One could say that financial abuse is the tip of the iceberg, a big tip, but so often there is more than one kind of abuse going on.

Where can we find more information on the other abuses that eldery persons run into? Where do you seek help?

Adult Protective Services is a good resource. The Web site for APS of Contra Costa County is Web Link. It's at least a good jumping off point. Or as Lynn said above, call them at 646-2854, or the APS hotline: 1-877-839-4347.

eloise sotelo uses meetings as these were wealthy seniors gather and may seek help or ask a question and the next thing they know they are going to court to be conserved and stripped of their rights, freedom, and wealth which is depleted and goe3s into the pockets of their friends who are lawyers that represent the conservators of the porposed conservatees, or into the hands of someone they know that plays a part along the way, all in the guise of supposed help, as this is what happened to my father Mr. Joseph Marek who was conserved out of John Muir hospital in Walnut Creek a the direction and hands of Eloise Sotelo. Thirteen months later my father was dead from a drug overdose, and had his life savings depleted, $250,000 dollars alone going out to lawyers who line their own pockets and depleted everything and used him as a feeding trough taking as much as they possible could. My father suffered horrifically at the hands of their assigned help and their debunk help cost him his life. Because of Eloise Sotelo's reccomendation my father never returned to his home where he had slept for 44 years never to return to his own bed nor see his beloved pets aqain. Lastly, the board and care home that the conservator Leyla Zabih sent my father to the owner and her cronies were sent to prison on May 12, 2012. Look up Edith Nelson residential care home for the elderly indicted on 20 million mortgage fraud scheme! Futhermore, how do you strip a veteran of World War ll who flew 35 missions over the sky's of enemy territory and script him of his right to vote in his county that he fought, and take this right to vote away for thru a court ordered conservatorship and why does no body care that this man died of an overdose and where are any of these do gooders now? And this is what eloise sotelo's help did to my father at the direction of her recomendation!! This is an abuse of their power and in no way can this ever be labeled as any real or genuine help only harm at their hands and they took all they could and had to answer to no one, legal abuse of the system they run , so beware they did only harm to my father and if anyone can help me I could use some pro bono legal services to have them have to answer to what they did to my father. I hate to see everyone walk away and answer to no one and continue on to the next wealthy vulnerable person who asks the right question they will end up getting them conserved, God forbid anyone else should have to suffer as my father at their hands with his own money that held him hostage a stone's throw away from his own backyard!!

I can only say that my father died at the hands of an abusive system. Over medicated and stripped of all his dignity due to a greedy private professional ????fiduciary???? She had his bank account frozen without setting aside reserve funds. He went down to the bank to withdraw some money where he was well known by the tellers because he banked there for 15 years. They told him he couldnt withdraw any money. My father became very angry knowing how much money he had in the bank and being Italian, slammed his fists on the counter and said "give me my money, or ill blow up your bank. They 5150 him and threw him in county for seven days. My father was an ex FBI agent. He caught bank robbers kidnappers, ten most wanted men. He was speaking out of anger. Wouldnt you be pissed if you had over a million dollars of life savings and told you couldnt withdraw from it????

This woman aka satan, alienated him from the people he loved most and put a restraining order on me because i refused to lie to him. He was overdosed on 5 different mind altering drugs. It took her 4 months to kill him. She had the eyes of satan. She and our so called judicial system were filling their pockets with my fathers hard earned money. My father worked for the government for 35 years a system that is obviously corrupt. I wrote every possible department in local state and national levels. The reply to my plead was "sorry this type of matter is not in our jurisdiction". One of the replies was sent two years after his death. What can you do when no one will listen to your cries for help. The elderly population is increasing and so is the abuse by a very unjust and corrupt system.
