What is happening with the old Danville Hotel?

Original post made by Kathleen Boas, Danville, on Jul 5, 2010

We have noticed a Construction trailer and fencing placed around the back side, on Railroad Ave.,of the old Danville Hotel, what is going to happen to the old Danville Hotel? We would like to see it restored to its' old glory!

It's being converted into gambling house for the criminally insane.

It's a holding pen for the construction equipment for the Veteran's Bldg.

It would be great if a gourmet doughnut place opened in town - that's sounds really good - it's the new trendy thing taking the place of the cupcake rage. Oh sorry - I'm responding to the previous article on Subway in the HS.

Does anyone know if there are future plans for the old Danville Hotel? It is a eye sore considering all of the other lovely buildings Downtown.

First off that old relic on Railroad is not the Danville Hotel. It was built in the 60's as a western shopping village and cheaply done so at that. The Danville Hotel is still there on Hartz and will remain. The old piece of junk on Railroad needs to go.

If they have run out of money for the new construction project on Railroad (Danville Hotel),
whoever owns it should be made to at least tear it down and clean up the area. Agreed it has turned into an eyesore.

This hotel and surrounding buildings could have been restored years ago! This was once the pride of Danville. Wonderful first class resturant, quaint shops and many fun family events throughout the year.

The ploy being to let the place run down, no maintenance, run off the existing businesses, wait long enough and then cry eyesore etc.

Now, why not tear down the mess, put in a parking lot with meters, more revenue.....whoopie....goes beautifully with the austere veterans building, sans trees, across the street. Another grand plan. Good Grief!!!

The Town Councel has something planned they know the residents will not like so they are dragging there feet so they can tear the whole building down and of course all the existing trees with it!!
I don't trust the Town Council to do the right thing, look how they handled the Redwoods across the stree!!!

I've been a Danville resident for over 35 years, and I think they should have restored the buildings near the hotel. Not everthing has to look NEW, and it would have cost a lot less money for the city to restore it. It would have been nostalgic.

I agree with Resident 46 years and "N", though Judith also was correct when she said it was built cheaply - like they used wood that already had termites. This would have fit very well if it had been built to better standards and maintained, and even in it's sad state it's still less ugly than the 3-story Wells Fargo building, the vet's Hall, or the office structure behind Country Waffles. I hope to heck the owners and city have abandoned their plans for another three story "bloc" building.
I was wondering what the deal was too, so thanks for asking Kathleen.
