BART will likely need a new funding source in the coming years, the transit agency's budget officials said Thursday, as relying mostly on fare revenue is not expected to support operating expenses through the end of the decade.

As usual, BART board director Debora Allen is the voice of reason on the BART board. The key to regaining ridership is improved security on BART trains and in stations, as well as tackling the related problem of fare evasion and hopping of the gates.

BART needs to operate like a real business which means controlling costs while providing a service that people will pay for. Unfortunately salary and benefits exceed the revenue... and that has always been the situation. No one appears to want to address that elephant in the room.
