How dare you try to do something good for our kids?

Original post made by Nimby, Danville, on Apr 26, 2007

I hear at the meeting Tuesday night residents near Community Presbyterian Church don't want the church to build a youth center on its own property.

Everyone is so concerned about the youth of America, teenagers in particular, getting into trouble because of the prevalent deterioration of morals, more working parents and single-parent homes, violent video games and television shows.... the list goes on forever.

So, here we have a church that wants to open a center to youth, supervise activities and teach them God's word. How dare they?

Perhaps the neighbors would prefer a tavern or a pool hall.

Well, I should say!

Good people of Danville, as a town without a fool, do you know the potential disaster that lurks before you by the lack of a pool hall in your beloved community? Well, I say that Nimby, in a claymation point of view, fails to understand the consequences of youth passing precious time in youth centers in hopes that the Word will guide them. I say, aligning a shot for a three rail placement of a ball in a pocket helps to cultivate horse sense and a keen eye.

It is more than often too easy for a minority of people with selfish interests to promote placement of recreations facilities into neighborhoods where their existence is an abuse of neighbors. Good examples are available as a parking lot for Monte Vista High School and the SRV YMCA attempts to build commercial facilities in Alamo neighborhoods. Danville, beware, don't let some slick talking brass band salesman trying to abuse your neighborhoods with facilities and activities in the wrong place in your community.
