A Danville man was arrested on child pornography allegations following a month-long, multi-agency investigation.

George Robert Lee III was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on Tuesday and subsequently released after posting $40,000 bail, according to Contra Costa County District Attorney Mark A. Peterson.

Prosecutors formally charged Lee, 44, with felony possession of child pornography the day after his arrest. He is due to make his first court appearance early next year, according to the DA.

“This office will aggressively prosecute anyone involved in the exploitation of child sexual abuse victims,” Peterson said Friday.

Authorities began investigating Lee after the Pleasant Hill Police Department learned in early November that a county resident was distributing child porn online, Peterson said. Police soon tied the illicit activity to a home in Danville and presented their findings to the District Attorney’s office.

Investigators then obtained a search warrant and scoured the St. George Road house in southeastern Danville on Tuesday, Peterson said.

Evidence found at the home resulted in Lee’s arrest, according to the District Attorney, who did not describe the materials reportedly recovered from the scene.

Agencies involved in executing the search warrant included the District Attorney’s office, the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the police departments of Danville, Concord, Martinez, Moraga, Pleasant Hill, San Jose, San Ramon and Walnut Creek, according to Peterson.

The charges against Lee carry a maximum of three years in state prison.
