San Ramon police investigators are trying to track down a man who tried to shoplift from Whole Foods Market and kicked an employee who confronted him, the department announced Thursday.
Police said the unidentified man walked into the grocery store at 100 Sunset Drive on Sept. 1 and attempted to steal items around 3:35 p.m.
When employees confronted him, he fought with them and kicked one of the employees, according to police, who said the employee did not suffer any visible injuries, other than being winded.
The culprit, who remains at large, is described as a white man in his early 50s, according to police. Investigators have not been able to identify him, and they posted a photograph of the man on social media Thursday — a grainy still image pulled from security video footage.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact Det. Michael Pistello at 973-2781.

With all die respect, what happened to being innocent until proven guilty. Your use of language suggests that it is true this man tried to shoplift and kicked an employee. We know that not everything perceived by someone is always “the truth”. Aren’t journalists taught to make sure these are reported as allegations or suspicions. This is the second time it seems that this newspaper is following the direction of police to post a photo of someone and report their guilt.
Dear sl – you are (politically) correct. The headline says this poor guy was “accused” of kicking an employee. Most likely, he was in a hurry to pay for his stuff, kicked a freezer door closed, and the employee got in the way. Sheesh – let me guess – are you a defense attorney?
This guy could have had a slip and fall when he was kicking… check into it!
First the lewd act at Alamo Safeway and now this .. what is happening to the 680 corridor. It was so safe to live here, it is all changing.
There is no crime free city anywhere.
However, San Ramon is THE SAFEST city in California with a population over 60,000 and 6th safest in the US.
So where would you move to be crime free?
