The San Ramon Chamber of Commerce is hosting a discussion with newly selected San Ramon City Manager Steven Spedowfski and planning commissioners Gary Alpert and S. Ashar Ahmed this month, with the conversation set to focus on housing and community development.

The chamber hosts roundtable discussions regularly on the fourth Friday of each month, with the upcoming talk set for this Friday (July 28).

The free event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the San Ramon Valley Conference Center at 3301 Crow Canyon Road.

Reps’ town hall

The Tri-Valley’s two members of the U.S. House of Representatives — Eric Swalwell and Mark DeSaulnier — are joining forces for a combined town hall meeting in Dublin on Monday.

“Are you wondering what Democrats are working on in Congress? Curious about how our efforts will help Tri-Valley families? … We’ll talk about these topics and more, and answer your questions,” DeSaulnier said in announcing the event in his email newsletter.

The town hall meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday (July 31) at the Shannon Community Center at 11600 Shannon Ave. in Dublin.

Harry Potter Birthday Bash

The town of Danville is gearing up to celebrate the birthday of J.K. Rowling’s world famous fictional wizard Harry Potter at the end of this month, along with all things related to the popular book and movie series and its growing number of spinoff projects.

All children ages 5 to 10 years old are welcome to a Potter-themed scavenger hunt to start the day’s festivities on Monday (July 31) from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m in the Danville Community Center at 420 Front St., with the first 100 participants to complete the hunt by 4 p.m. set to be awarded goodie bags full of wizard-themed gifts.

Two birthday celebration sessions are scheduled later in the day from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with limited space and registration required via the town’s recreation guide.

Tao House fellowships

The Eugene O’Neill Foundation is seeking applicants for the Travis Bogard Day Use Fellowship Program, which offers artists, writers and other creatives support in their endeavors and use of the facility at the famed playwright’s former home outside Danville that is now preserved as a National Historic Site.

Artists can request their choice of two five-day sessions at the Tao House between Nov. 1 and Jan. 14 for the upcoming session, with applications for the next session due by Sept. 1. Applications for the second session, between Jan. 17 and March 31, are due by Nov. 1.

Women and Girls Commission workshop

The Contra Costa Commission for Women and Girls is hosting a workshop this weekend aimed at providing information on the application process and appointments to state and local commissions in partnership with California Women Lead.

“The Commission encourages participation of active community members seeking to learn about public governance, preparing for elected office, or aiming to make more significant community impact,” event organizers said in an announcement on July 18.

The workshop is scheduled for Saturday (July 29) from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Brentwood Library at 104 Oak St. Registration is available here.
